Bar Table In 50's Retro Nostalgic Soda Fountain Style With Chrome Plating And Black Formica Table Top

Table could be better -- but the price is right3

You've seen the picture and read the description and it seems to be JUST what you want. I got this Bar Table in 50's Retro Nostalgic Soda Fountain Style with Chrome Plating and Black Formica Table Top along with Set of 2 Chrome Metal SWIVEL BAR STOOLS barstools - Black seatspecifically for an outside covered balcony. As there is a significant lack of quality reasonably priced pub-height balcony furniture on the market this seemed a good-looking compromise.

But let me add a small word of caution regarding this table.

First it DOES NOT have a black formica table top. The table top is a pebble-grain black plastic over an MDF board. This is not as hard or as long-wearing as real Formica.

Second and perhaps more importantly the table and the chrome-plated trim ring ARE NOT THE SAME SIZE. The trim ring is a lightweight steel band with no internal supports. It bends relatively easy and arrived significantly out-of-round. It took me about 45 minutes to very carefully bend the trim ring into a reasonably good semblance of roundness at which time I discovered that its diameter is about 3/16" less than that of the table. While this may not be a big deal it detracts somewhat from the overall appearance.

Third assembly was easy -- aside from the out-of-round table trim ring -- but could have benefited from better instructions. For example I discovered that the tube rings that brace the legs have dimples to match the angles of the legs only AFTER beginning their assembly. So it took a few minutes to correct.

Fourth I believe that the chrome plating will not last long in an outside (covered) environment before it begins to rust. While the table is not specifically designed for outside use it looks good and provides a comfortable functional pub-height dining set for two in a balcony setting. I'd recommend spraying the chrome with a sealer/rust-proofer to slow the rust and the life of the product.

The bottom line is this: If you're comfortable with DIY assembly and having to carefully bend the steel trim ring into roundness this is a well-priced and reasonably attractive table for the price.More detail ...
